As you get ready to move, utilize these tips to make everything from packing to moving day easier.
Make a checklist of all the items you’ll be needing in your new home and mark off each item as you pack it. If you already have items, mark those off, too--that way you won’t have duplicates in your new home.
When you decide to move, one of the first things you should do is start to de-clutter and reduce the amount of items you’ll be moving. It’ll save you time and backaches down the road.
Before you move, don’t forget to change your address. Make sure you notify the post office, Department of Motor Vehicles and your credit card/banking institutions.
You may think you have everything packed and ready to go in the moving van, but did you double check that last closet? Before setting out on the road, go through your house at least one more time and check every room, every closet and every drawer to make sure nothing gets left behind.
If you’re moving and you have small children or pets, keep them safe and out of the way on moving day. A week or two in advance, arrange for a babysitter and/or pet-sitter to watch children and pets while the move is underway.
Make sure your precious cargo makes it intact to your new home with quality packing materials. If you’re unsure how to pack a certain item or don’t want to pack at all, Two Way Relocation can take care of it all for you!
Pack a sturdy box or bin with all the essentials you’ll need for the first few nights in your new home: cleaning products, toiletries, clothes, etc. Choose a box that’s distinctive and easy to find and carry it separately than what’s on the truck – especially if you’re arriving days before the rest of your items.
You may have called the movers months in advance to plan your move. Call them again two weeks before moving day to confirm the dates and ask any final follow-up questions you may have.
In some areas moving trucks need permits if they will be blocking traffic and in others they may not be able to fit in parking lots. Scout ahead of moving day to make sure that nothing hinders the truck from getting to the destination. If need be, make arrangements with the town, apartment complex and neighbors for moving day.
